The ideal operating system for developers

What do you like best about the product?
One of the most popular linux distributions. Not too much graphical elements and hence we can speed up the code writing and running process substantially. Also the apt package manager is very convenient. Easy to install on Desktops, Raspeberry pis(the lite version) and Servers free of any charge.
What do you dislike about the product?
Display and Graphic drivers still need to be improved. The version which I've been using doesn't recognize an external display hence it's very hard to present anything or mirror displays. Also the default office tools are below par and take too long to work with. Support for Nvidia drivers is one thing I would totally want to have.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Deployment of distributed ledger technology on microsoft azure, AWS, running docker containers for hyperledger, coding environment for various tools and smart contracts for hyperledger. Ubuntu servers are very convenient to host a high computing application.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would say it's one of the most versatile distributions. With some practice of shell programming one can easily get started with it.

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about ubuntu is that it is open source, you could practically edit each of the internal files and understand how does a operating system works. Also Tensorflow works great in this system, rather than in windows
What do you dislike about the product?
A disadvantage of using Ubuntu is that the Media players are very much outdated. Also it is a bit intimidating when you install Ubuntu in a dual boot manner. When I was a novice, I deleted my windows partition while installing ubuntu. The grub installer also yields some problem while installing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tensorflow and Keras are my primary work currently. The benefit that I have realized is that everything can be modified and there is a great community out there where you could ask answers from. Also recently I have been doing API related Flask work, and Ubuntu is awesome!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its amazing, far better than commercial operating systems and it saves you 100 dollars

What do you like best about the product?
The best thing about Ubuntu is that it is free of cost. It provides long term support so there is no need of upgrading again and again.Inbuilt repository of Ubuntu also makes our life easy as it includes variety of inbuilt packages which are helpful in some or the way.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does not support middlewares which we use in our daily routine. Hardware support is also not upto the mark which makes playing games difficult in leisure time. Ubuntu offers less support for commercial, logistics and industrial technologies.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am actually working in Blockchain technology which requires fast computation time so I prefer using Ubuntu as it is very robust and fast.

Ubuntu - My favourite Linux distribution

  • March 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is my favorite Linux distribution. Ubuntu is one of the most recognizable Linux distributions, and its main advantage is the fact that it is very stable and easy to use, users changing the system will be able to use it without any problems. Another big advantage is that the universality of this distribution of Ubuntu works well on all desktop computers, and is also used by most people as a server system. Another significant advantage is the fact that the distribution is available Opensource, which makes it completely free and editable. It is also worth mentioning that Ubuntu is, supported on an ongoing basis, which is why updates and security patches for this system are often released.
What do you dislike about the product?
The downside for some users switching from other systems may be that Linux does not have support for all applications released on Windows/MacOS. Another disadvantage I noticed when using Ubuntu is that some elements of the system need to be optimized because the system itself can put much strain on the computer.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using Ubuntu makes me feel safe when using my computer, as Ubuntu is one of the safest systems on the market. By this fact, I save on the purchase of licenses for the operating system and antivirus.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are looking for a free operating system on which you will perform most of your tasks you should consider choosing Ubuntu because it is one of the most popular Linux distributions.

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is a great introduction into the space of Linux. It has a robust community and an easy to setup and use system. You can also use many different Desktop Environments so the OS suites your tastes.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is open source and so it has some hiccups with brand new hardware. You must force the kernel to update to recognize some hardware.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hosting our imaging server and a few other utility servers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Make sure to read the documentation and listen to the community when you need support. There is a lot of great help out there.

    Computer Software

Most Secure Platform

  • March 24, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Gnome is the default desktop, which has no bugs. Even if you were to find any bugs, it would probably just be a trivial one that you can easily bypass. It is preferred over other OS by many developers for this very reason. It also reduces the lag that you see in other places.
What do you dislike about the product?
People that are not used to it will experience a learning curve. This can take a while coming from a very different environment. Also, the GUI definitely needs a makeover.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No serious bugs or lags. This is preferred over any kind of attractive GUI, hands down.
